Discovering Happiness from Everyday Things

What nine little things make you happy?

Modern Mrs. Darcy, one of my favorite book bloggers, occasionally posts a list of little, everyday things that provide a disproportionate amount of happiness. So, I’d thought I try it. Here are nine very little things that are making me happy right now:

  1. Early morning lamp light. As the days get shorter, my mornings are now dark. There’s something so cozy working under the warm light of my lamp while everything outside my room is still at rest.

  2. Lavender candle. On my desk there is a Linnea’s Lights Lavender candle that I just savor. I don’t always light it, but the smell makes me a believer in aromatherapy. Lavender is good for my soul.

  3. True Lime. A friend has talked about this product for months now and so I finally ordered some. They’re small packets of crystallized lime and they add just the perfect touch to my favorite drink – Diet Coke. I didn’t know Diet Coke could be improved, but this makes it extraordinary. It doesn’t take much for me to be impressed, does it?

  4. Cadbury Fruit and Nut bars. I adore Cadbury Fruit and Nut bars and have unsuccessfully searched for them all during the coronavirus as part of my “comfort food diet.” Finally, my grocery store had them and they were on sale. There was a big smile on my face with this discovery!

  5. Comfy wrap-around sweaters. With the cool mornings, I pulled out my favorite sweater. Is there anything better?

  6. Two books that made me happy, The Keeper of Lost Things and The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. A new discovery in my reading life is that I love book characters who have a moral compass and stick with it during hard times. Both of these books were comforting and inspiring.

  7. Crisp, cold, clean air. With all of the smoke we’ve had this summer, I no longer take for granted clean air. It’s also now cold and crisp and that makes big gulp breathing extra delicious.

  8. Blue Heritage Pumpkins. Searching for the perfect pumpkin has never been more fun because of the many varieties that are now available. Hands down, my favorite are the powder blue heritage pumpkins. Who knew squash could come in my favorite color!

  9. Garden Lessons. As I’m cleaning up my yard and garden beds, I love to document my plans for next year. It’s an exercise in hope as I look forward to what rocks I’m going to move, new seeds I’m going to plant, and the anticipation of a new spring.

This was a fun exercise and I enjoyed recognizing that small, everyday things do give me happiness. What’s on your list?
