The How-To Book on Peace - Introductory Pages, Book of Mormon

Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon 2024 (January 1-7)

A google search of “how to find peace” found 1,870,000,000 results! That’s an astonishing amount of advice, books, research, and stories on the topic. It makes sense. The desire of most people today is to feel more peace and safety within themselves, with friends and family, in their communities, and in the world.

Fortunately, we don’t have to look through the billions of sources to find the answer of how to gain peace; we probably have THE how-to book sitting on our nightstand, bookshelf, or phone. It’s the Book of Mormon and its purpose is clear: “It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come” (Introduction to Book of Mormon).

There are countless endorsements for this book by God’s prophets. Here is one I love:

“The truths of the Book of Mormon have the power to heal, comfort, restore, succor, strengthen, console and cheer our souls.” (Russell M. Nelson, October 2017)

If you’re ready to find peace by reading the Book of Mormon this year, take these actions for success:

  1. Decide what version of the book you will use, electronic or paper.

  2. Decide specifically where you will read and study.

  3. Decide specifically when in the week/day you will study.

  4. Decide the duration of your study. Will it be by time or verse or chapter?

  5. Determine how you will take notes and record impressions.

  6. Choose additional resources that you will use. These could include Sunday School, podcasts, study partners, study guides, etc.

  7. Use a habit tracker to hold yourself accountable and give yourself a quick reward.

  8. Never miss twice. Get right back on track if you miss a study session.

The study of the Book of Mormon has a money-back promise of peace: “I feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read from the Book of Mormon prayerfully and regularly…. the spirit of that great book will come to permeate our homes and all who dwell therein. Faith, hope and charity–the pure love of Christ–will abound in our homes and lives, bringing in their wake peace, joy, and happiness” (Ezra Taft Benson).

Don’t miss the mark of looking for peace in all the wrong places. Create a Book of Mormon habit. The promises and blessings of peace, joy, and happiness are sure.
