More Thee, Less Me — 3 Nephi 17–19
Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon 2024 (October 7–13)
“Behold, now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked round about again on the multitude, and he said unto them: Behold my time is at hand. I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time. Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for tomorrow, and I come unto you again” (3 Nephi 17:1-3).
Days after conference, I still feel “weak” from the powerful messages delivered over the weekend. But the great news is the talks are available in writing, video and audio today and can be studied in detail over the next six months. To help me dig into them, I always purchase a spiral-bound copy of General Conference Addresses Journal Edition from Deseret Book where there is space to take notes. General Conference teachings then become a regular part of my scripture study.
The message that stood out for me and that I want to study more is this:
“Following Christ is not a casual or occasional practice. It is a continuous commitment and way of life that should guide us at all times and in all places” (Dallin H. Oaks).
If I drew a circle and filled in how much time I am intentionally following Him, letting God prevail, the percentage would not be 100%. Much of the time, I am “more me, less Thee.” How can I increase this percentage? How can I “offer my whole soul to Him “all of the time and in all places”? This will be my focus as I ponder the things that have been said and as I prepare my heart, might, and mind for when He comes again.
