Look for God Everyday — Alma 30–31

Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon 2024 (July 15-21)

You find what you’re looking for. If you’re looking to buy a new green car, you’ll see more green cars on the road than you’ve ever seen before. If you’re hungry, your stomach will growl at every food commercial, and there’s a lot of them! If you’re looking for God, you just need look around at the earth and all things on it because “all things denote there is a God” (Alma 30:44).

Looking for God right now will take some intentional work, however, because He is not in the headlines of your news feed. And it will require more than Zoramite frequency: “Now, after the people had all offered up thanks after this manner, they returned to their homes, never speaking of their God again until they had assembled themselves together again to the holy stand, to offer up thanks after their manner” (Alma 31:23).

Elder Eyring’s story is the quintessential way to look for God everyday:

“I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done.

More than gratitude began to grow in my heart. Testimony grew. I became ever more certain that our Heavenly Father hears and answers prayers. I felt more gratitude for the softening and refining that come because of the Atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ. And I grew more confident that the Holy Ghost can bring all things to our remembrance—even things we did not notice or pay attention to when they happened.”

It's always a good time to look for God, but it’s especially good when you’re in hard places. You’ll find what you’re looking for.
