How Do You Receive the Holy Ghost? — Acts 1–5

Come, Follow Me: New Testament 2023 (July 3–9)

How do you learn best? Is it by seeing, hearing, reading/writing or doing? Are you intuitive, relying on feelings (heart) or are you more likely to focus on facts and reason(mind) when making decisions? Do you speak up in class right away or sit back processing before you share? Do you prefer to communicate in English or another language?

These are just a few variables that create “our own language” by which we learn and communicate.

“And they were filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language” (Acts 1:4, 6).

In General Conference, October 2022, President Nelson encouraged us to record our thoughts as we pray to Heavenly Father to enlighten our minds and send help we need. I easily followed this counsel because my learning style is to read and write. Revelation is now recorded in my journals in the form of letters from Jesus. When my mother died, these are the sweet words of comfort He gave to me through the Holy Ghost:

“Terri, I will lead you, guide you to/through the next chapter of your life. Lean on me. Good things are in store. Everything will work out. We love you. We’re cheering for you. Jesus”

If we’re to “receive the Holy Ghost” we must discover the language by which he communicates with us. Nothing is more important.

“To be filled with the Holy Ghost means to be filled with joy. And to be filled with joy means to be filled with the Holy Ghost. Our joy increases as we work daily to bring the Spirit into our lives” (Elder Craig C. Christensen).

"In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost” (President Russell M. Nelson).
