If there is ever a time when one can be swayed to “love the world” (1 John 2:15), it’s during the Christmas holidays. We’re flooded with the expectation of creating a “perfect Christmas” with the perfect food, gifts, decorations, activities, and clothing–all defined by wily marketers selling their wares for silver and gold.
This year, choose differently. Experiment with putting Christ at the center of the season by making plans with this question in mind, “How can we celebrate Christ in all that we do?”
Here are some ideas to consider:
Gather a favorite New Testament story or scripture each day in December.
Read one chapter of Luke each day for 24 days.
Make a playlist of your favorite Christmas songs about Jesus.
Participate in Light the World with service (see JesustheChrist.org for more information).
Check out JesustheChrist.org for more ideas.
On December 25th, the gifts will be opened, the stockings cleared of toys and trinkets, the feast consumed. The world will “passeth away” (1 John 2:17).
By seeking Christ, we can experience the outpouring of joy that comes from celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ which “abideth for ever” (1 John 2:17).
This is the true way to make it the Best Christmas Ever!
