Put Down Your Anchor — Mormon 1–6

Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon 2024 (October 28-November 3)

This week will be an opportunity to practice doing hard divinely better. With the predicted turmoil of the national election, today is a time to prepare and use lessons we’ve learned from the Book of Mormon.

“But now, behold, they are led about by Satan, even as chaff is driven before the wind, or as a vessel is tossed about upon the waves, without sail or anchor, or without anything wherewith to steer her; and even as she is, so are they” (Mormon 5:18).

While the elections are important, they are not the most important. They are temporary and temporal. We know this because a prophet recently reminded us that when Christ comes again, “the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

As disciples of Christ, He is our sail and anchor through these tumultuous times. As we turn to Him, “He will bless you with what you need. He will heal your wounded soul. As you yoke yourself to Him, your burdens will feel lighter. If you will make and keep covenants to follow Jesus Christ, you will find that the painful moments of your life are temporary” (President Nelson).

After you have carefully and prayerfully voted for your candidates, replace the time you spend on news and social media with what you can do here and now. Increase your attention on the goodness that surrounds you in your home and neighborhood. Listen for guidance on how and who you can serve.

Then vote again for the Leader to whom you will give your life and your resources. Choose Jesus. Make your discipleship of Jesus your highest priority. Put His picture on your fridge and on your heart. Study His platform. Canvass for Him. Donate to His church. Talk with Him, give thanks, ask questions and request help. Listen to His voice and His messages, old and new. Make Him your Hero of righteousness, happiness, love and goodness.

Do Hard Divinely Better Lesson #42: When we use Jesus as our anchor, we will find peace and calm through the storms of this mortal (and political) life.
