Be of Good Cheer

3 Thoughts from Terri on the Value of Vacations

  • Vacations work. Time away from our daily responsibilities improves our physical and mental health. It gives us time to rest and refresh, and when we return, we are more productive and creative. Studies show that spending money on experiences makes us happier than buying stuff. Nothing can replace a good vacation.

  • Enjoy each part of your vacation. Plan ahead to reduce stress and experience positive anticipation. While on vacation, find time to deeply relax. Savor the vacation when you get home and share your travel photos and memories. Appreciating each of these phases will make your vacation extraordinary.

  • Examine your excuses for not taking vacations. In the short-term, you’ll get sick or burned out. In the long-term, you’ll regret prioritizing work over what really matters.

Right now, check your calendar. Do you have a vacation day, weekend, or week crossed off? If not, do it right away. There will be an immediate emotional boost when you take the first step of scheduling time for yourself and your family.

Always, always, have a vacation scheduled on your calendar. It will bring you good cheer!
